General Assembly 2025 – “We Believe”

The General Assembly 2025 took place from 20–23 October, carrying the inspiring theme “WE  BELIEVE.” What a wonderful message of hope and faith for the future.

Throughout the Assembly, Rev. Makesi and Ramona Alatimu and their dedicated team at St Paul’s Trinity Pacific Presbyterian Church showed extraordinary generosity. They didn’t just host the Assembly — they brought it to life. Their gracious hospitality was evident in every detail. The Praise and Worship team lifted our spirits, and the cultural performances beautifully reflected the richness of New Zealand’s and the Pacific Islands’ heritage. We are deeply grateful to every volunteer whose hard work made this gathering truly unforgettable.

We also took time to farewell The Right Rev. Rose Luxford, Rev. Wayne Matheson, Rev Kerry Enright, and Heather Mackenzie, and to welcome The Right Rev. Peter Dunn as our new National Moderator and Rev. Erin Pendreigh as the new AES.

One of the greatest gifts of this Assembly was the chance to connect — through Dialogue Groups, shared meals, and moments of conversation. These opportunities allowed us to form new friendships, share perspectives across presbyteries, generations, and cultures, and strengthen our shared faith journey.

During the business sessions, there was laughter, tears, and intense debates, heaps of decision-making, but this  Assembly placed strong emphasis on Whanaungatanga — the building of relationships — and on the growing partnership with Te Aka Puahou.

We were mindful, too, of those affected by the fires and severe winds near Kaikōura, and we continue to hold the Grace Vineyard Church community and others impacted in our prayers. While the winds caused a few flight delays, nothing could dampen the spirit of hope for the future of our Church, nor the enthusiasm to continue God’s work for the benefit of His Kingdom.
