St Andrew’s, Te Puke 1915-2025

St Andrews Presbyterian Church, Te Puke, marked its closure with two deeply meaningful services: the first having more of a family feel with an in-house gathering on 28 September 2025, followed by a formal final service on 5 October 2025.

The first service was led by Mission Facilitator Alby Mascheretti, who graciously shared the preaching slot with members of the congregation. Centered on the theme of thanksgiving, it offered space for anyone to reflect on their journey with God and the fellowship they experienced at St Andrews. There were memories, tears, laughter, heartfelt stories, and the joy of reconnecting with familiar faces.

The final service drew a crowd of approximately 80 people, gathered to give thanks for 110 years of ministry, growth, and fellowship. Presbytery was well represented, alongside current and former members of the congregation. The service was led by Rev Ron Bennett, Acting Moderator of Presbytery, with elders Elspeth Ireland and Coral Stewart contributing to the worship. Lynne Robertson offered a reflection on the 125-year journey since the first Presbyterian service was preached in Te Puke.
Together, we grieved the church’s dissolution while celebrating the Lord’s guidance of the many who served and worshipped here. The legacy they leave – the seeds planted and nurtured – ensures the Gospel continues to flourish. Throughout the day, friends and families reunited, sharing memories of youth group adventures, the trials and triumphs of leadership, and the enduring bonds formed at
St Andrews.

The centennial celebration in 2015 meant the church’s history was readily available, supported by photo albums and a timeline display. A commemorative book detailing the history of St Andrews has been published and is available for purchase at $20.
